How to Prevent Child Abuse

Child abuse is an issue that must be addressed by the entire community. The best way to prevent child abuse is to increase awareness about the legal responsibility to report suspected abuse, provide education about the dynamics of abuse, understand its long term effects, and most important, have a conversation with our children. CCCAC has published a free booklet, Kids Are Special, and a coloring book, The Kids Count Player's Coloring Book, available for a $2 donation, to help teach children about the subject of abuse. Both provide an excellent vehicle for parents to begin a conversation with their children on the subject. The booklet and coloring book may be requested from the center’s community education department by calling 972-633-6600.

It is critical for parents to understand that almost 96% of children victimized by abuse know their offender; accordingly, less than 4% of children are victimized by a stranger. Both have devastating consequences. Empower your children and help keep them safe by educating them.
